"The truth of our history must be preserved and passed on to the children. Some of these truths are harsh and cruel...but they reflect our strength and endurance as a people. The bad must be told with the good...the tribulations must be told with the triumphs. For together they make up the fabric of who we are...They act as sounding boards as to how far we have come as a people...and as to how much progress we have truthfully made." Carl G. Brown

Cripus Attucks At The Boston Masacre The First American Martyr

"THE BOSTON MASSACRE"
Acrylic Painting by Carl G. Brown (c) 2012
www.cbrownartprints.com
Because there were no birth records for slaves it has been determined that Crispus Attucks was born into slavery in 1723 on the Framingham, Massachusetts plantation of William Brown.

It is thought that Crispus Attucks' father was an African slave given the name Prince Younger and his mother was a Natick Indian, of the Wampanoag tribe, named Nancy Attucks. Being 50% Native American accounted for Attucks fair mulatto complexion.

As recorded in a 1750 issue of the Boston Gazette, a slave named 'Crispas' , aged 27, escaped bondage from the William Brown plantation on September 30th of the same year. A 10 pound bounty was offered for his capture and return.

Attucks was described as a large strapping man, for the times, who stood 6 feet 2 inches. He was also described as having short curly hair. Known for his bold and audacious temperament, local bounty hunters knew that he was sure to put up a vicious fight and none ever attempted to capture him. As a testament to his fearlessness, Crispus Attucks never escaped far from his enslaved family and moved to Boston which was not far from Framingham, but He was never captured or returned to force servitude. Finally, Attucks orchestrated his permanent escape by serving for the next 20 years as a seaman on merchant vessels and whalers harbored out of Boston. Eventually any request to recapture Attucks faded over the years because he spent most of his time away on long voyages. On his short stays in port Attucks traversed throughout Colonial Boston as a free man.

On March 5, 1770, due to colonial unrest, Boston was under martial law and being patrolled by British soldiers, known as "Red Coats". All the fire arms of the colonists had been confiscated. This further infuriated the citizens who strongly wanted liberation and independence from British rule, as did a majority of the other British Colonies because of the high taxation the British Government placed upon them. Attucks, just returning from a long sail to the Bahamas, was back in Boston briefly awaiting another merchant vessel that was scheduled to ship out to North Carolina in a few days. Eye witness statements confirmed that on that day a large group of Colonist gathered and were verbally lashing out at a British Soldier for accosting a young colonial boy. They began throwing snowballs at him. Other "Red Coats" came to the aid of their fellow soldier with intentions of breaking up the mob but they were also pummeled by a deluge of snow balls, rocks and sticks. Attucks, who was said to always be up for a good fight, joined the riot accompanied by a group of his fellow seamen and rope makers all wielding clubs. As they made their way to the front of the crowd a club was thrown striking one of the British soldiers (some say it was thrown by Attucks others say by someone else). The soldiers opened fire on the unarmed crowd. Crispus Attucks was struck twice in the chest and was killed instantly, the first to die in the "Boston Massacre". A total of five were killed that day and six were wounded. Cripus Attucks and the other four killed were buried as heroes in a common grave at Granary Burial Ground. The "Boston Massacre", the moniker given the event by Samuel Adams, was the catalyst that helped to ignite the American Revolutionary War. Although only armed with a club, Crispus Attucks, an African American and a Native American, was the first martyr to fall while fighting against British tyranny.

The Bible...Literal Or Spiritual?

There are books in the Old Testament of The Holy Bible or Torah that were written as far back as the 4th century B.C.. All Books of the Old Testament were written thousands of years before the birth of Jesus Christ. All could be described as have been written at the very beginning of Ancient Civilization immediately after the end of what is known as the Prehistoric Period of mankind. Many societies were still living in caves when some of the Old Testament Books were written. The New Testament was written during the 1st century A.D. at least 2000 years ago!!! The totality of the Bible was written during a time when ancient man was just becoming civilized. Their social needs and moral values were totally different than those of modern mankind today. There were hundreds of thousands of people worshiping everything from stone statues to living men as gods. Today, we could not conceive stoning the owner to death if their ox broke loose and accidentally killed someone. As a matter of fact, not many of us have ever even seen an ox! But that law is in The Book! I don't think adultery, as immoral as it may be, would qualify as a capital offense calling for the death penalty in these modern times. Common sense should tell us that the extreme advancements in mankind's social and technical growth should also command an extreme difference between the human ethics of ancient civilization and the human ethics of this modern civilization that we live in today. We are not the cave men!!! We do not live in Ancient Times! Today, The Bible cannot be interpreted literally, because literally we in no way remotely live under the same conditions as the people of that ancient era. This present age of civilization, as troubled and flawed as it may be, has advanced by leaps and bounds since Biblical Times! As a matter of fact, much of the Bible was never intended to be interpreted literally...even way back then! However, The Bible can be and should be interpreted to reveal its spiritual principles and moral messages that it can be adapted to coincide with any time period or social advancement that mankind will ever live through . It appears that the people who attempt to force the literal activity that occurs within the pages of the Bible onto others have failed to decipher the under lying spiritual message of the ancient passages. Therefore, they cannot adapt the Biblical messages to fit or parallel the social growth of mankind since those ancient days. They are literally stuck in a story book of the ancient past. This causes more harm than good and has caused some good people to be judged unjustly. The Bible can not be taken literally because none of us living today and none who have ever lived in our modern times can tell us what life was literally like for the ancients those thousands of years ago. There haven't been any eye witnesses alive for thousands of years! Our best conception of ancient life would only be a calculated guess! The laws were harsher because survival was exponentially harsher in those ancient times. Mankind was just learning how to be civilized and the stories within the bible reflect that brutality. Societies were constantly being conquered, wiped out and enslaved. The Bible is an ancient book written by ancient men from ancient places about ancient times. It must be interpreted realistically to fit the growth of humanity since those ancient thinking men wrote it! There were no cars, no planes, no trains or buses, no electricity, no super markets, no radio or t.v., no computers, no phones, no money as we know it...No Nothin'! To those men who wrote The Bible everything that we take for granted today would be either a miracle or an act of witchcraft! Their world was absolutely and completely different. Even the simple way that the Amish live is much more advanced than the societies that existed when the Bible was written. We have literally advanced too far as a society for us to interpret the Bible literally! It is a spiritual Book that must be interpreted for its spiritual value more so than its literal and material meaning. The spirit is stronger than the flesh! -CGB

The Two Types Of Sin And Christ's Salvation

Humankind is susceptible to 2 types of sin: (1) The State Of Sin that originated from the fall of Adam and Eve; which we are all born into. (2) The Acts Of Sin which we as imperfect mortals tend to commit everyday. This is why God The Father, bestowed His mercy and grace upon us and sent Christ, in the flesh, to save us. For God knew that without Jesus we would all be doomed by either our State Of Sin or our Acts Of Sin. Christ's death on the cross symbolized the death of our State Of Sin; that we could (through The Son) become acceptable in the eyes of The Father again. Through Christ's sacrifice of His Blood our random Acts Of Sin ( through genuine repentance) are washed clean everyday by that same Blood. We must acknowledge that only through the sacrifice of Christ could our Salvation ever become possible. Without Jesus Christ we would remain in a State Of Sin too unclean to approach The Father God. This is why we pray in the name of Jesus. Without Jesus Christ our Acts Of Sin would cling to us like filthy rags and drag us to certain doom. God loves us so much that He provided The One Way for a man or woman to once again achieve acceptability in His Eyes. Spiritual Salvation through Jesus Christ takes a personal and individual effort but it is there for everyone to grasp. Accept Christ so that He will know and accept you. Surrender to Christ so that He will save you. Believe with all your heart that you cannot do it without Him...Accept Him as The Only Begotten Son of God...Believe that He truly is your Saviour... Don't be afraid or ashamed to say this out of your mouth to anyone...Keep Him as the Head of your life...Acknowledge, praise and worship Him and His amazing Power...Give Him the credit for every blessing that you give and receive...and just as He rose up from the grave to live forever....Through your devotion and faith in Jesus Christ...
SO SHALL YOU!

The 10th Anniversary Of The 911 Attacks... Terrorism Is No Stranger To Black America

We are coming up on the 10th anniversary of the 911 World Trade Center Attacks. This was a tragic moment in American history, but it was no more tragic than the bombing of the 16th St Baptist Church in Birmingham 1963 which killed 4 young black girls, or the beatings and wrongful imprisonment of the Freedom Riders in 1961, or the assasination of Medgar Evers and Dr King, or the 1964 murders of the 3 "Freedom Summer" civil rights workers in Neshoba County Mississippi, or the police brutality and killings of young students and protesters in Birmingham 1963, or all the unresolved and unpunished terrorism and murders of blacks by the KKK, or the unbalanced lack of employment oportunities for black people right now (today), causing greater poverty in our neighborhoods which in turn causes more crime which in turn places an uneven percentage of black people in American jails and prisons. The list goes on and on and on! Yes, 911, on a grand scale, was undoubtedly a horrific tragedy and a legitimate reason for mourning. However, it was nothing that we, as black people, were not already used to. If we address one act of terrorism, on American soil, then we must address them all. There is no difference between a so-called Muslim wearing a turban or kufi planting a bomb or a so-called Christian wearing a hooded robe or para-military camouflage planting a bomb; when the end results is to cause the pain and death of innocent people (No matter what race, religion, creed or nationality) due to some type of misguided and sociopathic hatred. A lot of innocent lives were lost on September 11, 2001. But, if we total it all up, even more innocent lives have been destroyed or lost due to the injustices setforth upon black people (just for being black) by terrorist born right here in the USA.
